With today’s competitive real estate market it is always nice to have an “ace in your hand.” One of these is virtual staging. It is very simple.I photograph a vacant room then I create furniture and other “home goods” to make this space look more appealing. This makes it easier for the client to visualize what their new home could look like.

My job as a photographer is to show beautiful images so that the client will click on and look at the whole listing. Too many times you see underexposed, out of focus images online. Our true value is showing clean crisp interiors, dramatic drone shots and smooth looking videos.

I think the only draw back to having virtual staging is that you have to show the client an empty house. But at least you are getting them to the door. This will not replace staging, it will only give the realtor another tool to help sell an empty home.

Photographing for interior designers is thrilling because of the unique visions¬† that they have. My job is to show this unique quality through lighting and composition.¬† Location shooting for me has always been a lot of fun. I photographed one of Heidi’s masterpieces a combination of 3 rooms in a Westport residence. Bel Mondo recently moved to a new location on post Rd West in Westport.

Vivi from Rive Bistro called me for pictures of their new event room. I walked in and was very excited to shoot it. The room is really bright with lots of windows. Looking out you can see all the way down the river to downtown. Rowers and ducks are paddling up and down the river. It really is a great place to have a gathering. Adjacent to the room is a wine tasting spot with a real nice rustic table and hundreds of bottles of wine. Birthday party’s, christenings, rehearsal dinners are all in the plans for this new spot. While I was there, I got the chance to photograph the main restaurant located downstairs. When I shoot, I take many images one set up and then blend them together in photoshop for a unique look. The shoot may take a couple of hours but the retouching could be double that.

The 29th annual Westport Historical Society’s holiday house tour took place this past weekend. I was asked to photograph one of the house’s for Mersene. She is a fabulous Westport Designer. The Historical Society has 5 houses on the tour, each house’s interior is an open canvas for designers and florist to show there talent in creating a showcase of the house. Our house was on Kings Highway North and I really enjoyed photographing it. The house was built in the 1930’s and it has been newly renovated. The gardens were incredible and I got an invite to go back in the spring. I will definitely check it out.

I was asked to photograph the interior of Lillian August’s Showroom in Norwalk. It happens to be one of my wife’s favorite destinations. I can see why, it is full of excellent furniture, rugs, lamps and anything you ever wanted to fill your house with. It is a tough shoot because of the very high ceilings. I used my light painting techniques to light up all the important parts of the picture.
